The Ringer's Masquerade by Sarah J. Pepper Release Day

Goodreads Blurb:
"The Ringer's Masquerade Series features all three full length novels: Devil's Lullaby, Death's Melody and Angel's Requiem.

Sebastian's haunting gaze penetrated my very being, revealing my secrets, fears, and desires. My name rolled off his tongue, tempting me to take exactly what I hungered for. His world was laced with inconvenient truths; mine was saturated with sweet, beautiful lies. Sebastian promised me nothing of a happy ending. The demonic spawn with an angelic voice could derail my only purpose for living, but still I didn't want to look away. My curiosity would certainly be my undoing—but then again, death was inevitable.

Life perceived by the soulless ones…

Created by the unorthodox hospital known as the Ringer, Catherine is fated to die on her next birthday. As a soulless spawn, her only purpose for existence is to be the perfect organ donor for her terminal progenitor. Although Catherine has never met her progenitor, an unexplainable bond ties their lives together forever.

Catherine waits patiently for death, until Sebastian gives her a taste of something more, something worth fighting for. The uncontrollable, consuming passion they share begins to grow dangerous as he reveals the Ringer's most guarded secrets—secrets they'd kill to keep."

The Books:

The countdown to my death has begun... Created by the unorthodox hospital known as the Ringer, Catherine's fated to die on her next birthday. As a soulless spawn, her only purpose for existence is to be the perfect organ donor for her terminal progenitor. Although they have never met, an unexplainable bond ties their lives together forever. Catherine waits patiently for death, until Sebastian gives her a taste of something more, something worth fighting for. The uncontrollable, consuming passion they share begins to grow dangerous as he reveals the Ringer's most guarded secrets - secrets they'd kill to keep.

Trailer:

“I was created to die. Death isn’t what scares me. What I’m afraid of is what they’ll do if I don’t play by their rules,” James said.

“You don’t have to do everything they want, James.”
The rage in James’ eyes fizzled into misery, but even as anguish threatened to overtake his soul, hope lingered. His familiar scent drew me closer. It reminded me of the young man he used to be. He towered over me, as if he could shelter me from the cruelty of life. It was tempting to let him, but I knew it would just be another lie. The Ringer made a game out of life and death. They created the rules and demanded everyone abide by them orsuffer the consequences. Nevertheless, I couldn’t ignore the truth any longer. I needed answers.
“Yes, I do. If I want to protect the ones I love…” James said. He leaned in close enough to steal a kiss. An agonized smile crept onto his face.“To protect you.”

A fate worse than death…
All of Catherine’s dreams ended with her progenitor’s sacrifice and the loss of her beloved. Surrounded by a scornful family and friendships built upon lies, she’s never felt more alone. The Ringer denies her plea to be an organ donor yet monitors her relentlessly. She is unable to live a life free of the hospital’s control. Her future unravels as disturbing questions arise and hidden lies surface. However, what’s even more troubling than the Ringer’s dangerous secrets are the torturous punishments they deliver to those who defy them.

Trailer:

What was a life worth? It couldn't be measure as currency or in time, yet it was priceless. The man I loved saved his brother’s life by giving his own. Countless others benefited from his death when his organs were harvested. The recipients still had their dreams. Their families were not torn apart because of disease. His life was measured by the number of breaths each recipient took. Closing my eyes, I could still hear his voice, encouraging me to be strong.
"The Ringer created miracles," I said. My voice wavered. The pain harbored in my broken soul threatened to stop me from speaking the truth, as I saw it. “They gave me my best friend…and then they killed him."

Abide by the Ringer’s masquerade or suffer the consequences…

Renowned as the Ringer’s medical miracle and a politician’s daughter, Catherine is pulled into a bureaucratic conflict. Battle lines are clearly drawn. Sebastian firmly believes the truth must be told, while James relentlessly promotes the hospital’s practices. She must choose to speak her voice and unveil the Ringer’s wickedness, or play by their rules to insure nothing unfortunate happens to her loved ones. The Ringer might not kill her, but they threaten to tear her life apart, one spawn at a time.

About the Author:

I specialize in dark, paranormal romance – think “happy ever after” but with a twisted, dark chocolate center. Real-life romance isn’t only filled with hugs, kisses, unicorns, and rainbows. True-love can be more thoroughly described in times of darkness and tribulation. It’s in those harsh moments where you see what a person is truly capable of – both the good and bad. Sometimes prince-charming isn’t always on time, and the glass slipper is a little snug. However, it doesn’t mean Charming is not Mr. Right, and who says every shoe is the perfect fit?

"Warning: Addictive passion erupts from her mouthwatering descriptions" - recent review.

Sarah J. Pepper lives in South Dakota with her real-life prince charming. At a young age, she fell for paranormal books and now incorporates that genre with romance that thrives in the hearts of us all. When she’s not storytelling, she’s most likely biking, hoarding chocolate, or taking a bubble bath. Get a glimpse inside her head at www.peppersreadingcorner.com

Review and Interview Thursday: The Fifth Letter by Vivian Carpenter

Stand-alone

Goodreads Blurb:
"Sometimes you’re damned if you do and damned if you don't. Such is the position in which U.S. Justice Katherine Ross, the first black female on the U.S. Supreme Court, finds herself in "The Fifth Letter," the new legal thriller by author Vivian Carpenter.

Rooted in the historical treatment of Blacks in the United States, Justice Katherine Ross, the first Black female on the U.S. Supreme Court, struggles to do what is right as her mother’s 1940s memoir influences her actions and emotions.

Once on the Court, Katherine gains the power to ignite an involuntary retirement process to remove conservative Justice John Galt from the bench after the U.S. Constitution is amended to create an involuntary retirement process of incapacitated justices.

John Galt, an outspoken egoist, survives an assassination attempt but is severely injured. He appears incapacitated. Pressures for Galt’s removal from the bench mount with his prolonged absence from the Court. However, John Galt will not resign is seat. Katherine must decide whether or not to issue the fifth letter for Galt’s retirement.

While weaving through Katherine’s personal challenges, "The Fifth Letter" turns a spotlight on the most important issue currently facing the Court today: who is a person with inalienable legal rights in America? And it asks this question of its main character: What happens when a liberal Black female justice of the Supreme Court is caught between her conscience and the call of political expedience?"

Pointe of Breaking by Amy Daws and Sarah J. Pepper Release Blitz!

RWB-work

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00009]

NOW LIVE

Meet ivy league socialite, Leo Richards, and struggling ballerina, Adeline Parker, in this angsty, emotional page-turner.

synopsis
POINTE Getting screwed over backstage by my married-ex tears my heart into a million tiny pieces. Sitting in the audience at the ballet with my former fling wasn’t my idea of fun.
I live in my pointe shoes, not even my ex can taint my love for ballet. I hate the ballet. This on again/off again crap was getting old. And then my whole world changes when I notice the smoldering gaze… Then I look to the stage, and I can’t take my eyes off…
OF... Leo Richards. Adeline Parker. Concentrating on anything except his sexy…everything, is impossible. Her presence commands my attention…I’ve never experienced this before.
He makes me second-guess everything I’ve ever dreamed about. She makes me question everything I’ve ever known.
Fighting him is a strategic sport—no clothes allowed. All I can think about are her sexy ballerina legs wrapped around me—tutu definitely on.
BREAKING Our scandalous rendezvous is plastered all over NYC’s tabloids. Because of my status in Manhattan, now I’ve dragged her into the limelight.
My ex will stop at nothing to tear us apart. Seriously powerful people forbid me to be with her.
Rumors about his past keep building. I can’t tell her this secret.
When it came to Leo, I only knew the big things. When it came to Adeline, I knew nothing about the little things. But uncovering those things about him [her] may push us past our breaking point.

Review Thursday: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Stand-alone

Goodreads Blurb:
"Throughout her career, Margaret Atwood has played with different literary genres in her novels--historical fiction (Alias Grace), pulp fiction (The Blind Assassin), the comedy of manners (The Robber Bride)--but no foray into genre fiction has been as successful as her turn to speculative fiction in The Handmaid's Tale. Published in 1985, it echoes Orwell's 1984and Huxley's Brave New World, but a vibrant feminism drives Atwood's portrait of a futuristic dystopia. In the Republic of Gilead, we see a world devastated by toxic chemicals and nuclear fallout and dominated by a repressive Christian fundamentalism. The birthrate has plunged, and most women can no longer bear children. Offred is one of Gilead's Handmaids, who as official breeders are among the chosen few who can still become pregnant.
The Handmaid's Tale is an imaginatively audacious novel that is at once a page-turning psychological thriller, a moving love story, and a chilling warning about what might be waiting for us around the corner. What ultimately makes it stand out is Atwood's ability to balance a passionate political statement with finely wrought literary fiction. The Handmaid's Tale is a remarkable work by one of Canada's most inventive writers. --Jeffrey Canton"

Be a Better Blogger: Choose Your Own Challenge for July

So I've decided to take part in the Be a Better Blogger challenge this month which is Choose Your Own Challenge!  This lovely event is coordinated by Brittany over at Book Bumblings!

You can probably guess what I'm going to be doing this month but I'll say it anyway!  I want to get all caught up on my reviews!  Currently, I have more than 20 books to review that have been sitting on my currently reading shelf for WAY too long!  There are even some books that I've read that I haven't even put on my currently reading shelf!  This is a HUGE problem.  It wasn't a previous challenge to my knowledge but I'm sort of doing it for spring cleaning.  MAJOR spring cleaning!  So keep an eye out for a bunch of reviews coming your way!

Review Tuesday: The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger

Stand-alone
Recently made into a movie: IMDB

Goodreads Blurb:
"Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone."

Review Friday: Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider

Stand-alone

Goodreads Blurb:
"From the author of The Beginning of Everything: two teens with a deadly disease fall in love on the brink of a cure.

At seventeen, overachieving Lane finds himself at Latham House, a sanatorium for teens suffering from an incurable strain of tuberculosis. Part hospital and part boarding school, Latham is a place of endless rules and confusing rituals, where it's easier to fail breakfast than it is to flunk French.

There, Lane encounters a girl he knew years ago. Instead of the shy loner he remembers, Sadie has transformed. At Latham, she is sarcastic, fearless, and utterly compelling. Her friends, a group of eccentric troublemakers, fascinate Lane, who has never stepped out of bounds his whole life. And as he gradually becomes one of them, Sadie shows him their secrets: how to steal internet, how to sneak into town, and how to disable the med sensors they must wear at all times.

But there are consequences to having secrets, particularly at Latham House. And as Lane and Sadie begin to fall in love and their group begins to fall sicker, their insular world threatens to come crashing down.

Told in alternating points of view, Extraordinary Means is a darkly funny story about doomed friendships, first love, and the rare miracle of second chances."
